5 Techniques to Further Enhance Your Study Habits for International Students

Every student has their own style of studying, this includes their own personal preferences when it comes to their study habits. However, in most cases, other students tend to struggle in adjusting to a new environment, hence this affects their way of studying. International students are faced with dealing with these sorts of challenges, especially whenever they transfer to a new school abroad. Adjusting to a new setting is normal, and there are multiple ways to make things easier for you when you’re studying abroad.

Having multiple techniques to improve your study habits can help you excel as an international student studying abroad, as you would be able to adjust well especially in your learning style. Students even in the best universities in the world find trouble when dealing with their studies, but that can be avoided if you keep on practicing your approach in learning.

If you find yourself having trouble studying abroad, IDP is here to provide some techniques that you may use to improve your study habits.

Here are 5 Techniques to Enhance Your Study Habits:

  1. Having Proper Time Management

Managing your time in everything that you do shows how organized you are, and how even a simple act of planning your day is a form of efficiency being displayed. Developing a sense of time management also means you would get to avoid cramming as much, as you will get to plan things ahead, and do the adjustments if needed before passing a requirement in school. Time management also helps you get to do a lot of things, creates a possibility for a checklist, and to not just go with the flow.

Having consistency builds up room for a lot of accomplishments, and time is a factor that shows value to the things you do daily, and you get to do a lot of progress in such a short span amount of time.

  1. Practice Notetaking

In class discussion, it is important for you to consider notetaking. Writing down the concepts you hear or even highlighting and annotating your educational readings will help you jot down important information for you to remember. Whenever you write the things you hear in class, not only do you get to process the ideas given to you, writing also helps you mark those specific concepts in a way that you would get to clearly understand them.

Another benefit of notetaking is that you get to go back to the notes you wrote down after classes, and scan through any potential questions that you may have for the next class discussion.

  1. Always Take Rest Breaks

Studying is never an easy task, but always remember that you should never overdo it. Having a time slot in your schedule where you can just take a break is a must for everyone, even those who are already in a working environment. Pushing yourself too hard will negatively affect you in the long run, taking short breaks every now and then will balance the things you need to do, while also taking care of your overall well-being.

  1. Research for Additional Sources

It is never really a bad thing to think outside the box, do not limit yourself to the materials you currently have. If you are studying concepts that you find difficult to understand, you can always visit the library for textbooks, or even surf the internet for online education materials. Having additional sources helps you be exposed to multiple perspectives of research to the very same topic you are studying.

There are a lot of accessible information, may it be physical or digital. You can always widen your knowledge by reading a lot of educational sources written and published by well-known professionals.

  1. Find Your Learning Style

Students usually cope in their studies by developing their own style of learning, and through this people gain knowledge faster and easier based on their preference of study habits. Assess yourself to know which type of learner are you. Do you prefer having visual aids such as pictures when studying? Would you rather listen to audio books or music when studying? Are you a verbal learner who would much rather prefer writing and speaking? It’s best to figure out what kind of learning style is best suitable for you.

Determining your style of learning helps you develop your skills even faster, and you would get to capitalize on the things you are likely interested in while also learning new information.
