Canada is open to international students!
As the borders of popular study destinations like Australia and New Zealand remain closed to international students, you might be thinking: “Is it still possible for me to travel to study abroad?”
The short and resounding answer is: absolutely! One country that’s open to Filipino students is Canada.
As of August 20, 2021, fully vaccinated international students will be allowed to enter Canada for discretionary travel. Specifically, foreign nationals including new and returning international students can fly to the country and commence their studies as long as they meet the following conditions:
- their school is included in the designated learning institutions (DLI) list
- have no signs or symptoms of COVID-19
- have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines*:
- Pfizer-BioNTech
- Moderna
- AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD
- Janssen/Johnson & Johnson
*These are the accepted COVID-19 vaccines as of August 20, 2021. For the latest list, please check this website.
**If you received your vaccines outside Canada, it’s still accepted but proof of vaccination must be uploaded digitally in ArriveCAN and must only be in French or English, or certified translation into French or English.
- have received your last dose at least 14 days prior to the day you enter Canada
- meet all other entry requirements mandated by the Canadian government.

Canada is home to some of the best educational institutions in the world. Whether you are planning to take an undergraduate, postgraduate, or vocational course, there is a school for you in Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories that offers world-class quality education.
2. Post-graduate Work and Permanent Residency opportunities

3. Lower cost of living
Compared to other “developed countries,” Canada offers a significantly lower cost of living and higher minimum wage for workers at $15 per hour. You can work part-time for up to 20 hours a week as an international student in Canada. Use IDP’s cost of living calculator to find out the estimated living cost in major Canadian cities.
