IELTS Online: Taking IELTS At Home Will Soon Be A Reality

Take IELTS with IDP

As the world begins to open up, many of us are looking for more flexibility and convenience in how we live, work and learn. How you take your IELTS test should be no different.

To help cater to your testing needs while supporting your wellbeing and comfort, IDP IELTS has been adapting our world-leading test.

We are proud to bring to you IELTS Online – the new way to take your IELTS Academic test from the comfort of your own home.

We believe that test takers should have equal access and opportunities when it comes to taking IELTS. IELTS Online brings you the same secure test, with increased flexibility, as you pursue your work and study goals.

When will IELTS Online be launched?

The global rollout for IELTS Online will begin in early 2022.

Students will be able to take the test from their own home or another suitable location with the added convenience of not having to travel down to an IELTS test centre.

IELTS Online – What you should know

The test components are the same

IELTS Online will cover all four skills of IELTS Academic - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. It will also have the same rigorous assessment by trained examiners, and a

speaking test with a human examiner giving a true indication of the test taker’s ability to

communicate English effectively, just like computer-based and paper-based IELTS.

The Speaking Test will have a real-time speaking portion

In order to assess your true ability to communicate effectively in English, the speaking test portion will be done in real-time, face to face with a human examiner.

Safe to take IELTS at our test centers

As you wait for IELTS Online, you can still take the paper-based or computer-delivered test to help facilitate your application to your dream university.

At IDP, we take your health seriously and that’s why we have implemented safety measures to ensure the test is taken in a safe and clean environment.

This is what you can expect from our test day venues:

  1. Signing a health declaration form
  2. Test takers and invigilators to wear a mask at all times throughout all parts of the assessment
  3. Hand sanitizers are provided and readily available
  4. The test room is regularly disinfected and cleaned
  5. Physical distancing of more than 1 meter is observed at all times
  6. The drinking of water is not allowed during the test sessions
  7. Smaller number of test-takers per session (Maximum of 10 test-takers per session)
  8. Partitions in computer-delivered IELTS test rooms

In our physical test venues, you can be assured of additional spacing, smaller numbers per test session and the utmost strictest safety measures. In the event any of these measures are not adhered to, test takers will not be allowed to commence or continue taking the tests.

This will help to ensure every student and invigilator helps do their part to mitigate any spread of the virus.

We encourage all students requiring an IELTS grade to go ahead with confidence to take your IELTS test at our venues!
