Overview
MSc Physician Associate Studies students can access financial support in the form of a bursary and, in certain circumstances, a hardship fund.
Bursary
A bursary is available to all eligible students and is paid in regular instalments throughout both years of the course. It is intended to alleviate the financial pressures of completing this course and the associated placements.
Hardship
Additional financial support is available from a hardship fund. All applications are assessed on an individual basis, and payments are not guaranteed. It is intended to support students who find themselves with additional financial pressures, over and above the expected norms.
You should ensure that you have accessed all other suitable sources of funding before applying to the hardship fund.
The bursary and hardship fund can be awarded in addition to a Master's Loan from Student Finance England if you are eligible for one.
What you could receive
Bursary
Eligible students will receive £5,100 divided across both years of study (£2,550 per year). It is normally paid over ten equal monthly instalments from March to December.
Hardship
Hardship applications will be assessed individually and award amounts will vary depending on your circumstances and the evidence provided.
Who can apply
You will receive the bursary and you can apply for the hardship fund if you are fully enrolled on the MSc Physician Associate Studies course.
How to apply
When to apply
Bursary
If you are eligible, we will contact you shortly after you have enrolled and ask you to complete a short bursary claim form. We will then confirm your payment amounts and dates.
Hardship
Applications are open throughout the academic year. However, if all available funds have been allocated, applications may close before the end of the academic year.
You should apply to the Physician Associate Studies hardship fund before applying for the university's Hallam Hardship Fund. However, if your application is rejected, or available funds have been allocated, we may refer you to the Hallam Hardship Fund.
How to apply
Bursary
You do not need to apply, if you are eligible we will contact you and ask you to complete a short bursary claim form. The form will ask you for your bank details.
Hardship
You will need to submit an application form. Depending on your circumstances, the form may ask you for:
How much money you need and why.
Relevant evidence to support your request (such as travel tickets, invoices and bank statements).
Details of your usual home address and your placement address.
A personal statement explaining your financial situation.
You must read the terms and conditions before applying. These can be found at the start of the application form.
