Spanning six unique colleges, Flinders University is an institution which encourages innovation. Degrees are tailored to meet industry needs and teaching is collaborative and empowering. Named after the British explorer, Matthew Flinders, the university welcomes students from all over the globe to be fearless in the pursuit of knowledge.

Established in 1966, Flinders ranked within the top two per cent of universities by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2023. Its campuses combine picturesque nature with laid-back urban living.

Department structure

Flinders University offers study options across six academic colleges:

College of Business, Government and Law

Internationally acclaimed for its teaching quality, it offers study options in areas such as business, commerce, politics and public policy, healthcare management, law, criminology and international relations.

College of Education, Psychology and Social Work

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

To gain admission at Flinders, students must fulfil two types of entry requirements, academic and English language requirements.

Academic entry requirements

For direct admission to an undergraduate course, a student should have successfully completed a recognised secondary education qualification.

For entry into a postgraduate course, in addition to the language entry requirements, students must also meet the specific academic criteria listed for that course.

English language entry requirements

International students whose native language is not English must meet the English language entry requirements. Students who do not fulfil the English language and academic entry requirements can apply to one of the pathway programs available. Flinders is a university that is known for its state-of-the-art facilities.

Campuses

All three of its campuses offer world-class facilities.

  • The Flinders Bedford Park campus is home to modern buildings and state-of-the-art facilities, such as the AUD 63 million Student Hub and Plaza, home to study spaces, retail stores, cafes and a bar. Known for its brilliant coastal views and surrounding bushland, it's also the only university campus in South Australia with on-site accommodation.
  • The Tonsley campus is housed in the country's first ever innovation district. Here, entrepreneurialism and collaboration come together to drive the newest products and processes of our generation. This AUD 125 facility contains teaching and research facilities for computer science, engineering and mathematics all in one place. It's also home to the New Venture Institute (NVI), dedicated to inspiring and educating the next generation of leaders and innovators.
  • Flinders City Campus is located in the epicentre of Adelaide's most vibrant and connected cultural hub, where students will study alongside and connect with key arts, business, government sports, health and tech organisations. It's just a 22-minute train ride to the Bedford Park campus. Flinders' key accommodation partner, The Switch, is just a 5-minute walk away. Flinders students are eligible for exclusive accommodation discounts.

Accommodation

Flinders is the only university in Adelaide, which offers on-campus accommodation facilities. If students choose to live off-campus, Flinders Living can assist them with choosing suitable accommodation.

For Adelaide Central Business District accommodation, Flinders University has partnered with The Switch student accommodation. A co-living space designed for the younger generation, it's a five minute walk to Flinders City Campus and only a 22 minute train ride to Flinders' Bedford Park campus.

Student support

Student support

Flinders' International Student Services (ISS) help international students settle into international student life. The ISS is the first point of contact for international students and assists them with a wide range of activities from support during enrolment to study and social life.

Flinders also offers health, counselling and disability services.

Student Learning Support Service (SLSS)

Flinders' Student Learning Support Service offers support to all students in the areas of academic writing, basic mathematics, general study skills and referencing. There is also an English for academic purposes program, with free modules for students to improve their academic English.

Flinders University Student Association (FUSA)

The Flinders University Student Association assists Flinders students with academic, administrative and welfare issues.

Safety

Flinders is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment to all its students. It has a robust security service in place, available 24-hours a day to assist in emergency situations. Students can also make use of a service to escort them to their car or campus residence after dark.
