Maryville Celebrates 150 Years

Founded in 1872, Maryville University has evolved from a small academy in South St. Louis to a dynamic national university in West St. Louis County. Maryville is proud to celebrate its history, people, and stories over the past 150 years.

New Projects & Developments

Maryville University continues to drive innovation through technology and campus renovations focused on enhancing classrooms, gathering and study spaces, and our sport facilities.

Maryville University recently announced a partnership with KEAT Properties and Keeley Properties to build a new sports arena near campus. The project will be used for multipurpose education, athletics, and esports seating up to 3,000 people. Maryville President, Dr. Mark Lombardi, said, ''Our four-time national champion esports teams are known around the world for their domination in the sport. The arena will provide local fans an opportunity to watch esports competitions as well as for our basketball, wrestling and volleyball teams.''

Maryville to Add NCAA Sports

Maryville University recently added men's volleyball and women's field hockey to total 25 NCAA sport offerings. Men's volleyball began competing in Spring 2022 and women's field hockey began in Fall 2022. Students can learn more about Maryville University Athletics on the Maryville Saints page.

Apple Recognition

Maryville University has been recognized for its high-tech learning environment as an Apple Distinguished School since 2016.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Maryville University requires a minimum 2.5 GPA for undergraduate admission and is a test-optional institution. Program-specific requirements may apply.

The following tests are acceptable as proof of English language proficiency:

  • TOEFL - 69 (internet-based) or higher depending on program of study
  • IELTS - 6.0 or above on overall band score depending on program of study
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) - 95 or higher depending on program of study
  • ESL Language Center - ELS level 112 with a 2.5 grade or better depending on program of study
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - 47 or higher depending on program of study
  • SAT - 480 or higher on Evidence-based Reading and Writing section
  • ACT - 21 or higher on Writing/English section
  • Full admission if applicant has completed at least 24 credits of 100-level or above coursework with at least a 2.0 GPA and completed English Composition 101 and 102 equivalent with a ''C'' grade or better. A ''C'' or better in English composition for Non-Native speakers does not waive the English proficiency requirement.

Scholarships and funding

Scholarships and funding

Several scholarships are available for incoming freshman students, sponsored by professional groups, fraternal organizations or companies. All students who meet the stated requirements for automatic scholarships will be awarded them appropriately. GPA is cumulative and based on a 4.0 scale. Maryville does not use the writing section of the ACT and SAT when considering scholarships.

Scholarships include:

Automatic scholarships:

  • Saints Scholarship – USD 14,000 annually for applicants with GPA of 3.5 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 27/1290 or above.
  • Big Red Scholarship – USD 11,000 annually for applicants with GPA of 3.0 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 24/1180 or above.
  • Maryville Opportunity Award – USD 9,000 annually for applicants with GPA of 2.5 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 22/1110 or above.

A few of the competitive scholarships (not guaranteed) available include the following:

  • Presidential Scholarship – full tuition, room and board for applicants with GPA of 3.75 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 27/1290 or above.
  • Trustee Scholarship – full tuition for applicants with GPA of 3.75 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 27/1290 or above.
  • Multicultural scholarship, offering coverage of up to 75 percent of course tuition for students who can show good leadership, academic preparation and an inclusive attitude towards the Maryville campus community.

Facilities

Maryville campuses include multiple dining and athletics facilities, offering a range of cuisines to create a vibrant and multicultural environment with plenty of opportunity for social activity.

The university also provides a state-of-the-art library where students and faculty share research ideas and study. It includes individual workspaces and small meeting rooms to accommodate a range of needs, as well as a 4,040-square-foot casual venue for campus events and student meetups. The John E. and Adaline Simon Athletic Center headlines the athletics facilities, which also include fitness centers, soccer and baseball fields.

Accommodation

To accommodate students, the university provides three halls of residence and an apartment block.

  • Mouton Hall: Home to more than 147 students. Each floor features a large lounge. It also provides laundry facilities for residents.
  • Potter Hall: Home to more than 248 students. Flexible room options include doubles, triples and a few single rooms. Facilities include a spacious lobby with two study areas, beverage station and fitness room.
  • Saints Hall: Newest hall of residence at the university, featuring fitness center, open lobby, lounge spaces and modern floor plan. Designed with a conscious thought of learning experience, with Apple TVs and study lounges throughout the building plus a high-tech first floor classroom.
  • Hilltop Apartments: Located on the far north end of campus and housing more than 250 students, each building has 15 units and accommodates 50 students.
