Scholarships for science and technology

New scholarships have been announced from the University of Bradford for their science and technology subjects.

A number of the scholarships can be used for newly developed course areas, and many do not require a separate application:

  • Architectural engineering and technology
  • Satellite systems engineering
  • Construction and project management
  • Filmmaking
  • Applied computer sciences, and applied artificial intelligence
  • Game design, film and tv production, animation, graphics, and film and visual effects
  • Chemistry, forensics and archaeology

Bradford offers a range of awards to students from all over the globe based on academic excellence, personal circumstances or financial hardship.

New Space AI Centre puts Bradford in the global conversation on space

Through generous donations from an alumnus the university was able to launch a brand-new centre for Space AI in late 2022, offering new and innovative courses such as the MSc in Satellite Systems Engineering. Students on this course will immerse themselves in a curriculum co-developed through partnerships with companies like Satellite Applications Catapult and Airbus, as well as explore graduate job opportunities with them after their studies.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

Teaching at the University of Bradford is informed by research that is conducted for the good of society through the main themes of advanced healthcare, innovative engineering, and sustainable societies.

It has always been a pioneer of education and in 1969, the university founded the world's first university centre for the study of peace. It's still one of the largest of its kind across the globe today.

Students are taught by experts in their field as well as industry professionals, using world-class facilities such as a motion capture studio and Bloomberg Trading Room.

Academic faculty are at the forefront of innovative work. Their achievements include developing an innovative new blood test for cancer and being awarded two Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher Education for work in helping people with dementia and research in archaeology.

Accreditation and rankings

Many courses have accreditation or professional approval. The business school has Triple Crown accreditation by EQUIS, AMBA & AACSB.

Department structure

Department structure

The University of Bradford was first established in 1832 as the Mechanics Institute. It received a Royal Charter in 1966 and become the UK's 40th university.

It's comprised of four academic faculties which are located on one city-based campus. Each cover a large variety of disciplines:

  • Faculty of Engineering & Informatics (FoEI) – home to the School of Engineering School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and School of Media, Design and Technology.
  • Faculty of Health Studies (FoHS) – well known for its nursing, midwifery and allied health professions courses.
  • Faculty of Life Sciences (FoLS) – home to the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences, School of Chemistry and Biosciences, School of Optometry and Vision Science, and School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences
  • Faculty of Management, Law & Social Sciences (FoMLSS) – home to the School of Law, the accredited School of Management, and School of Social Sciences.

Each academic programme belongs to one of the four faculties, and may incorporate tutorials, seminars, lectures, lab work and practical work. The academic year begins in September and ends in May, with some courses starting in January.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

Students will need to meet the subject-specific academic requirements to study at the University of Bradford.

International Foundation Year

For those who cannot meet the requirements for a degree course, the University of Bradford International College (UBIC) is based on the university campus. It provides programmes that help students improve their academic skills, so they are prepared for degree-level study.

English language requirements

International students will also need to meet the English language requirements of the university. IELTS is the university's preferred English language test, but the university has its own entry test, the BASALT. The following tests are accepted:

  • IELTS – students will need a score of at least 6.0 with no lower than 5.0 in each band, or 5.5 in each band if a Student Visa is required.
  • TOEFL – students will need a score of at least 80, with no lower than 18 in reading, 17 in writing, 17 in listening and 20 in speaking if a Student Visa is required.
  • Pearson PTE Academic – students will need a score of at least 62, with no lower than 59 in each of the four sub-tests.
  • LanguageCert International ESOL SELT B2 – students will need to achieve a minimum of 148 overall with a minimum of 33 in each subskill
  • PSI Skills for English: SELT – students will need to achieve at least a Pass with Merit overall and in each sub-test in the B2 level test
  • Or an accepted equivalent

Some courses may ask for higher language proficiency requirements. Students are encouraged to check individual course information.

Pre-sessional English Language courses

Those who cannot meet the required English language proficiency requirements to qualify for their chosen degree course can choose to study a pre-sessional English language course. This will help them to build their language and academic skills and get them ready to study at university level.

Facilities

The University of Bradford offers a welcoming and vibrant environment where international students will find a home-away-from-home. As well as the many modern, industry-standard learning facilities to assist with studies, there is plenty to support students outside of the classroom.

Students' union

To help students get the most out of their student experience, the University of Bradford Students' Union (UBU) has plenty of support resources, activities and events on offer year-round. All students are automatically members of UBU. It's led by elected student representatives, and international students can find confidential assistance for anything to do with their studies, finances, welfare, immigration and more.

UBU is also host to more than 100 different student-run sports clubs and societies. From street dance to politics, there is something for all students to enjoy outside of their studies. If they can't find exactly what they're looking for, students can also start their own club or society.

Accommodation

The university's recommended accommodation is the Green, the GBP 40 million award-winning student halls of residence. Located on campus but close to the city centre, the Green is a friendly and safe place to live. Comprised of townhouses and apartments, there are 1,002 rooms as well as high-quality, fully equipped communal areas. It's also one of the most sustainable developments of its kind in the world.

There are also off-campus accommodation options available. Bradford is a relatively cheap location to live in compared to other university towns across the UK. Accommodation is competitive, so students are encouraged to organise their living arrangements as soon as possible.

To help students from all backgrounds who are in need of extra financial support, the University of Bradford puts more than GBP 4 million each year into scholarships. A number of these are dedicated to self-funding international students. Scholarships are based on academic excellence, personal circumstances or financial hardship.

Students are encouraged to search for what is available and check the eligibility requirements. Some scholarships are subject-specific and may require an application.

The University of Bradford has unveiled fresh scholarships for its programmes in science and technology. Various awards are accessible for recently developed courses and many of these grants do not require an additional application. These include but not limited to:
