Overview
Founded in 1881, the University of Liverpool is the original ‘redbrick' university and a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group, associated with nine Nobel Laureates. With almost 30,000 students including 8,000 international students from over 135countries, Liverpool offers a diverse and welcoming place to live and study.
First-class, state of the art facilities and outstanding student support ensures the university is consistently ranked in the top 30 universities in the UK (The Times 2024), and among the top 180 universities in the world (QS World Rankings 2024).
As a Russell Group University, research is central to everything. The university reinforced its place as a world leading research institution in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), with 91 percent of the university's research being classed as world leading or internationally excellent.
What this means for students is, Liverpool offers outstanding academic teaching, informed and delivered by inspirational experts, who are at the forefront of developments in their field. This no doubt also contributed to the university being awarded the highest rating of Gold, in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023.
As a campus university at the heart of a vibrant city, Liverpool has it all, including award-winning student accommodation, and libraries, the sports centre and the Guild of Students that are never more than a short walk away.
Students might know the city of Liverpool as the home of The Beatles and Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs, but the city has a wealth of culture for students to explore beyond that. With more galleries and museums than any other UK city outside London, and an incredible range of restaurants, bars and shops to appeal to all budgets and tastes, there really is nowhere quite like Liverpool. If students want to explore other cities via train, they can get to London in around 2 hours 20 minutes and Manchester in 36 minutes.
