The University of Rhode Island is a diverse and dynamic community whose members are connected by a common quest for knowledge. URI offers more than 90 undergraduate majors, 73 graduate degree and 22 certificate and non-degree programs.

Faculty are the heart of any institution of higher learning, and that is particularly true at the University of Rhode Island. URI is proud of the distinguished scholars and researchers who make up their faculty and of the excellence and commitment to their students they demonstrate in the classroom, laboratory, and in their role as mentors and advisors. There are 751 full-time teaching faculty of which 87% of full-time faculty have doctoral or terminal degrees. The URI student to faculty ratio is 17:1.

There are more than 120 student organizations at URI, from cycling and sailing to slam poetry and meditation. Students can get involved with the student newspaper or radio station. They can also develop their leadership skills. On-campus jobs and off-campus internships can open doors for students that they didn’t even know were there. The university’s fitness areas, wellness resource center, personal training, and group exercise classes provide a positive outlet to support students physical and mental wellbeing. Nationally certified professionals lead its programs to encourage them to achieve sustainable dietary, fitness, and wellness goals.

The university’s campus is minutes from the beach, 30 miles south of Providence, 75 miles from Boston, 160 miles from NYC, with Newport just across the bay. The Kingston Amtrak Station is right down the road from campus, T.F. Green Airport only 20 minutes away, and for Rhode Island destinations, RIPTA runs dozens of buses from campus every day.
