Ranking success.

Western Sydney University has once again, for the second consecutive year, been named number one in the world in the prestigious 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings. Over 1,700 institutions from 115 countries took part in the rankings.

The ranking assesses universities on their commitment to the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on teaching, research, outreach, and stewardship.

The university is also ranked 31st in the world in the Times Higher Education 2021 Young University Rankings, – now ranking fifth in Australia and affirming its position as a modern and innovative university.

Entry requirements

Academic Entry Requirements

Students aiming to study at Western should demonstrate the requisite academic ability. Students are encouraged to consult the online handbook for entry requirements for particular degree programs, which may include the need to demonstrate relevant work experience.

English Language Entry Requirements

International student applicants are required to demonstrate the requisite level of English language proficiency in order to gain admission. For non-first language English speakers and for students who did not previously study with English as the medium of instruction (criteria applies), results and scores from an approved English proficiency examination must be supplied before a full offer is made.

Applying to Western Sydney University

Applications to Western can be made directly to the university or via an authorised university agent. Students making an application via the international office are able to obtain information pertaining to the minimum English language proficiency requirements by consulting the university handbook.

Applications to Western can be made online at UAC International if a student is completing one of the following qualifications one year prior to admission:

  • Australian year 12
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Australia or New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) level three

Students who are applying for a study abroad or exchange program should consult the Study Abroad at Western resource on the university website. All students should also visit the admission page on the institution's website for guides on admission criteria and how to apply.

Students benefit from the university's full suite of state-of-the-art facilities, including lecture theatres, science and computer laboratories, purpose built engineering labs and facilities, libraries, gyms, and restaurants.

One of the best things about the life on campus at Western Sydney University is that there's always something happening through WESTERNLife. Ranging from table tennis comps, sports and unigames, to one of the many social events which are organised by Western Sydney University or its student clubs, the university's students are bound to find something which fits them and will help them forge lifelong relationships.

Western aims to provide a rich educational experience through new and emerging technologies. These include online state-of-the-art learning environments, research and clinical facilities, social learning spaces, and computer laboratories.

Students can also make use of transport services provided, with free shuttle buses run regularly between train stations and campuses.

On-campus accommodation

Students have the option of choosing from a variety of on-campus accommodation options that are affordable and of a high-quality. A good balance between the living and learning environment provides the ideal student experience.

Western Sydney University Village offers students excellent value for money. Staying on campus means students save money on transport and have access to free shuttle bus services, or they can simply walk to their campus.

Villages at Western are available on the Bankstown, Campbelltown, Nirimba, Hawkesbury, Parramatta and Penrith campuses. All are fully furnished and self-catering, with the additional benefit of having 24-hour support and security. Whatever campus a student chooses they will be part of an exciting community with many activities and events in which to participate.

Students can receive a discount accommodation rate through the Western Sydney University Village Accommodation Scholarships program.
