Wright State ranked among top universities worldwide

Wright State University is ranked in the top 6.4 percent out of 20,531 universities worldwide in the 2023 edition of the Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings. The Center for World University Rankings publishes the largest academic rankings of global universities. The rankings are unique in that they use objective indicators for four key pillars underlying the ranking methodology. These pillars are education, employability, faculty and research, with no reliance on surveys and university data submissions.

Top business school 

The Wright State University Raj Soin College of Business is recognized by several prestigious national rankings. Awards and recognition include: 

  • One of the most outstanding business schools – Princeton Review, Best Business Schools 2021 
  • Top 50 online MBA program – Fortune Education Hub, Fortune magazine 
  • One of the best colleges for online master's business degree programs – U.S. News & World Report 2021.

Department structure

The university is home to five colleges and two schools, each offering a diverse range of inspiring programs.  

  Academic Program Offerings 

  • Raj Soin College of Business – programs include accountancy, economics, financial services, marketing, management information services, and international business 
  • Engineering and Computer Science – programs include biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, information technology and cybersecurity, and materials engineering 
  • Health, Education, and Human Services – programs include teacher education, nursing, organizational leadership, public health education, rehabilitation services, and social work 
  • Liberal Arts – programs include art, communication, language, history, music, philosophy, and sociology 
  • Boonshoft School of Medicine – programs include biochemistry, emergency medicine, neurology, cell biology, pediatrics, psychiatry, surgery, pharmacology, and public health 
  • Science and Mathematics – programs include biochemistry, environmental sciences, mathematics, physiology, neuroscience, physics, microbiology, and psychology

Academic requirements 

Wright State University welcomes applications from students from all over the world. It's especially on the lookout for those with baccalaureate qualifications.  

To apply, students need a certificate to show they have completed secondary school, where they must have studied mathematics and science subjects. They'll need a cumulative GPA score of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). 

Undergraduate English language requirements 

Non-native English speakers also need to demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following minimum test scores, or equivalent: 

  • TOEFL – overall 61 
  • TOEFL home – overall 61 
  • IELTS – overall 5.5, with no section below 5.0 
  • IELTS indicator – overall 5.5, with no section below 5.0 
  • Pearson PTE – overall 51. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the university is also accepting the Duolingo English test. Students need an overall score of at least 110.

Graduate entry requirements 

Students who have a three- or four-year bachelor's degree must submit the required transcripts from the school or institution they have graduated from to apply for a graduate study program. Three-year programs that students have studied must meet the regionally accredited standards of four-year degree programs in the US.

International students' whose first language is not English, must meet the Undergraduate English language requirements:

  • TOEFL – overall 79
  • LEAP level 4 TOEFL waiver track
  • IELTS – overall 6 or higher
  • Pearson PTE – overall 57
  • Duolingo 120 or higher
  • TOEFL home and IELTS Indicator will also be accepted during COVID-19. 

Certain programs may have additional entry requirements and require higher levels of English language proficiency.

Currently, standardized test scores for GRE/MAT are being waived for certain programs, including masters and Ph.D. programs in engineering and computer science health, education and human services and environmental science. The complete list is available on the graduate admissions page.

Facilities

The university is spread over a 651-acre campus, including nature trails and wildlife. Facilities include academic and academic support buildings, libraries, student residences, and an entertainment and athletics venue. Almost all academic buildings are connected by underground tunnels, which provide safe and dry routes for students during adverse weather conditions. These are accessible for disabled students.

 Accommodation 

Student residences are comfortable and convenient. There are three residence hall communities and four on-campus apartment communities that are affordable, spacious, and inclusive. Enjoy a short walk to classes and events and make friends that will last a lifetime. Students can customize their room and board by choosing the housing, dining, and parking options that fit their needs. On-campus housing residents enjoy high-speed internet, heating and air conditioning, and laundry facilities.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

The international scholarship program provides financial awards to international students based on academic merit. Values range from USD 4,000. Undergraduate awards are renewable for up to three years. 

Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 

All new undergraduate international students are considered for the scholarship when admitted to the university. No extra application is needed. Eligible students need to meet the minimum GPA score requirements. 

Vietnam Academic Merit Scholarship

The Vietnam Academic Merit Scholarship is designed to award and support academically outstanding Vietnamese undergraduate international students. Scholarships are renewable and range in value from 50 to 75 percent of tuition. Eligible students who continue to meet certain criteria can receive this scholarship for a total of 8 semesters of full-time undergraduate study. Application deadline is May 1, 2024.

#YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship 

A renewable scholarship of USD 10,000 per year is available for new undergraduate international students who demonstrate an interest in intercultural understanding and exchange. 

Graduate Merit Scholarship 

Outstanding graduate international students may be eligible for an award of up to USD 5,000, renewable for one year. Students are considered for the scholarship when admitted to the university. No extra application is needed.
