Maria Bourboulis Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic and work excellence. However, in honour of the memory of Maria Bourboulis, preference will be given to exceptional candidates who aim to explore in their independent research study (dissertation) historical and contemporary welfare problems in Southern Europe.

Application requirement details:

Application documents include a personal statement, a CV, previous degree certificates, academic transcripts and one reference letter. Please explain in your personal statement why you would like to undertake an MA in our School at York and how the scholarship would be useful for you to achieve your goals.

Please indicate on your application documents that you intend to apply for The Maria Bourboulis MA Scholarship.

Second, you must also submit a separate copy of your application to the School for Business and Society and a 200 words statement about the usefulness of the scholarship in order to achieve your goals.

N.B. If you have already applied for an MA with us, you can write to us and tell us that you would like to be considered for the scholarship. Please provide a short additional text about the usefulness of the scholarship in order to achieve your goals.

Study level you are applying for: Postgraduate

Applications are invited from highly qualified and motivated applicants to take up this MA scholarship opportunity. The scholarship is to be awarded to a candidate applying for a postgraduate degree in either Social Policy and Social Work or Sociology. A committee formed by the Head of Graduate School in Social Policy and Social Work and the Head of Graduate School in Sociology will determine the successful recipient each year.

Open to International (including EU) and UK (home) students.

In order to be eligible you must also have an offer for a place on one of the following courses:

MA Social and Policy
MA Global Public Policy and International Business

Scholarships are available to applicants who meet all the following criteria:

Have received an offer for one of the programmes mentioned.
Intend to begin your Masters studies.
Have or expect to obtain a first or 2:1 honours degree or equivalent prior to commencing the Masters programme.
If English is not your first language you should also read the English Language requirements for postgraduate study. We expect applicants to provide all necessary evidence for language requirements before the scholarship application deadline.
