Overview

Established in 1885, the University of Arizona is a home to nearly 50,000 students from more than 120 countries. UArizona is truly an international university that prepares students to face real-world challenges.

The University of Arizona includes 19 colleges, along with over 65 research centers and laboratories. Students can choose from more than 150 undergraduate degrees, 210 graduate programs and 100 doctoral programs across subject areas ranging from arts and astronomy to entrepreneurship, engineering and social sciences.

The University of Arizona offers the all-American college experience. There are 4 housing districts on campus, including 23 unique dormitories. Students have the opportunity to join one or more of the hundreds of students clubs and organizations, which cover everything from hobbies to career-oriented and professional groups.

UArizona is ranked in the top 1 percent of universities worldwide (Center for World University Rankings 2022), with research and development expenditure in the top 4 percent of all U.S. universities (National Science Foundation, 2022). Students here benefit from truly outstanding teaching quality based on the very latest information and research breakthroughs.

There is no shortage of activities on campus, with two recreation and sports facilities, multiple stadiums, sports fields and a vast array of food outlets and restaurants to choose from.

Beyond the classroom, students are supported to excel in their chosen field and future careers. Many degrees include internships, and first year students are encouraged to participate in groundbreaking research. All students have the opportunity to gain career support and guidance from the Office of Student Engagement and Career Development.

Student support

Student support

UArizona provides support to students as they earn their degrees through academic and faculty advising, tutoring services, on campus housing and international student services.

International student services (ISS) offers a range of resources on and off campus, providing academic and personal support to students during their time at the university. Some of the services include immigration and academic support, international student orientation, events to connect with other students, and leadership opportunities. Whatever students need, the team is available to help in person, or via telephone or email.

Additionally, students can learn leadership skills in over 600 student organizations, focus on wellness and fitness at the Student Recreation Center or Campus Health, and cheer on student athletes as they compete in 21 NCAA Division 1 athletic programs.

Graduate outcomes

The University of Arizona is committed to ensuring that every student graduates with real-world experience to complement their list of accomplishments. Through hands-on, practical experiences, students launch their own businesses, collaborate on research, take on service-learning projects and internships, and work in offices or laboratories on and off campus.

Students participate in faculty projects, leading to careers with companies including Apple, Microsoft, Tesla, Cisco, Ernst & Young, Adidas, Nestle, Tata Consulting Services, Texas Instruments, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amazon, Google, and many more. Many students who start their educational careers as freshmen at the University of Arizona choose to continue into full-time graduate study here or at other top universities around the world.

Select students who demonstrate exceptional talent and determination are able to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree in just five years with the university's accelerated master's programs.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Students can view the academic program options available at the University of Arizona by visiting the undergraduate majors list and the Graduate Catalog. Undergraduate

First-Year Students

  • Have a 3.00 recalculated grade point average (GPA) (a "B" or better where "A"= 4.00) from a secondary school.
    • Please note: GPA recalculation occurs during the admissions evaluation process.
  • Have three years of completed high school coursework.
    • Please note: For students currently in high school, the university needs to see 9–11 grade work. High school graduates should submit Grades 10–12.
  • Meet English proficiency requirements

Transfer Students

  • Have earned 12 or more transferable college credits post-high school from an accredited college or university
  • Have a minimum 2.50 GPA (a "C+" or better where "A"= 4.00) from a college or university.
    • Please note: GPA recalculation occurs during the admissions evaluation process.
  • Have and present a completed high school diploma or certificate.
  • Meet English proficiency requirements

Competitive programs may require a higher GPA and English proficiency score.

Graduate

Graduate students can apply for admission through GradApp at the University of Arizona. In general, all graduate applicants should prepare for the following:

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA (a "B" or better where "A"= 4.00) from college or university.
  • Have and present the equivalent of a bachelor's degree.
    • Review international degree requirements.
  • Have 1-3 letters of recommendation
  • Prepare a statement of purpose
  • Prepare an academic resume
  • Meet English proficiency requirements
  • Complete any additional program requirements as outlined in the graduate catalog

Facilities

The University of Arizona offers every facility that students could need to enjoy a fully-rounded educational experience, including innovative classroom spaces and places where groups and communities can learn together.

When students are studying independently, the well-equipped libraries are stocked with thousands of physical books along with digital resources, while students can also enjoy the down time offered by the world-class recreation center. Studying at UArizona is about more than just the academic experience, which is reflected in the 600+ clubs that students can join.

Beyond the campus itself, the surrounding area of Tucson offers all the amenities of a major city that students could hope to enjoy, including live music, world-class museums, great shopping and more. It's also good for active students who seek to partake in various outdoor activities, with an average of 350 sunny days every year.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

Undergraduate

The Global Wildcat Award is a competitive, multi-year scholarship awarded to first-year and transfer students who exhibit outstanding academic performance. The Global Wildcat is automatically awarded at time of admission to qualified applicants based on their recalculated cumulative GPA, with the award amount varying. For the 2024/25 academic year, it ranges from USD 5,000 to USD 23,000.

Graduate

Funding decisions for graduate students are primarily made within the program of study and are usually a combination of fellowships, assistantships, associateships and/or grants. Funding offers are typically made at the point of admission.

The university also boast an internationally recognized scholarship portal, Scholarship Universe, that matches UA students with potential funding available across campus.
