The Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Centre Grand Opening, 2023

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is consistently investing in its facilities to aid the creative and professional development of its students. In February 2023, The Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center held its grand opening. UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA explained that the opening of the Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning center was ''a major milestone'' in the university's ongoing commitment to creating ''spaces where people can come together to learn from the past and shape a stronger future''. The grand opening was the first phase in the development of a facility that will serve as a center of education and intercultural dialogue that inspires active reflection and important discussions around subjects of art, human rights, and Holocaust education. The venue houses classrooms and meeting spaces in which students are encouraged to develop a sense of civic responsibility and critical awareness.

Five University of Nebraska at Omaha Projects awarded 1.7 million USD in BHECN Funding to Boost Behavioral Health Training

UNO actively engages in and seeks new research opportunities. Recently, UNO received a combined 1.7 million USD in funding for five projects at its Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN). The five projects awarded through the American Rescue Plan Act are:

  • Project REST (Reflect and Explore in Supervision Training)
  • Counselor Training Recruitment and Clinical Practicum Experience
  • Advanced Clinical Training for Counselors in Training
  • Broader Nebraska Social Work Sustainability (BNESWS) Project
  • Embedded Therapist for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

The funding received will be used to boost the training and recruitment of behavioral health professionals at the university.

Department structure

Department structure

UNO offers over 200 undergraduate majors and 70 graduate programs through its six colleges. It is a distinguished research university and is recognized globally for its variety of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

All courses are designed to give students unique opportunities to study and research in growing and critical academic fields. The university's six colleges are:

  • The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
  • The College of Business Administration (CBA)
  • The College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media (CFAM)
  • The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS)
  • The College of Information Science & Technology (IS&T)
  • The College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS)

UNO courses are structured with workforce development opportunities integrated into the curriculum, at all study levels. Entry requirements

Entry requirements

International students are required to demonstrate their English language proficiency as an entry requirement for all levels of study at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The preferred indicators of English proficiency at the university are IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo or PTE Academic. UNO does not currently accept IELTS Indicator, TOEFL Essentials or TOEFL MyBest Scores as English proficiency exams.

Students who do not meet the English proficiency levels required by UNO may be eligible for the university's Intensive English Language Program (ILUNO). International students who successfully complete ILUNO's requirements and assessments may subsequently be eligible for admission to undergraduate programs.

In addition to English proficiency tests, international undergraduate students will need to provide academic transcripts and official grade sheets from previous secondary schools or universities. Transcripts are required to be in both their original language and accompanied by a certified English translation.

Graduate students are required to submit a course-by-course transcript evaluation from WES, ECE, Educational Perspectives, or SpanTran. Additional program-specific application and admission requirements vary by graduate program.

Facilities

Facilities

The University of Nebraska at Omaha provides its students with a range of cutting-edge facilities where students learn and develop their skills in a state-of-the-art environment. There are over 180 high-tech classrooms, auditoriums, and labs on campus. Notable facilities include the bioinformatics computing lab, which offers students a state-of-the-art computer facility that combines computer science, molecular biology, mathematics research and chemistry. The university is also home to the Mallory Kountze Planetarium, which houses the Space Telescope Science Institute's ViewSpace, which is updated daily from Hubble Space images.

The university offers its students a choice of six halls of residence, which together provide a variety of options for living on-campus, including modern apartment-style housing. UNO's residence halls offer students safe, active housing in the center of the vibrant campus and city. Features of student accommodation include private bedrooms, large personal closets, study lounges, multimedia rooms and laundry facilities. All bills, including utilities and internet are included in housing fees.

Affordable off-campus housing is also available.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

International students at University of Nebraska at Omaha have access to a number of scholarships and funding options to help pay for their studies.

At the undergraduate level, the university's International Academic Excellence Scholarship offers partial funding for tuition costs, starting at USD 3,000 per year. All newly admitted and transfer students who are enrolled full-time are automatically considered for the scholarship after admission. The scholarship is renewable for a total of five years or until students receive their bachelor's degree.

At the graduate level, the International Graduate Scholarship also partially funds tuition costs. Starting at USD 2,000 per year, it is renewable for up to three years for master's degrees, four years for specialist degrees, and five years for PhDs. All newly admitted and transfer students who are enrolled full-time are automatically considered for the scholarship after admission.

Graduate assistantship opportunities may be available. These positions are research or teaching responsibilities with a faculty member, and vary by department. Positions are limited and highly competitive. For more information, students should reach out to their intended graduate program.
