IELTS stories and reviews from test takers

Lydia Ghisi

International Business Manager and writer, Brazil

After 10 months as an exchange student in Australia, having already graduated from high school, I decided to assess my English language proficiency. With my IELTS score (6.5) I was able to show my ability to communicate in English and also prove the success of the experience I had in Australia.

With my IELTS score (6.5) I was able to show my ability to communicate in English and also fast, which was great. It was very important for me to show that my year off was worth it and IELTS was an essential part of this process.

I took IELTS in 2007 and got band score 6.5. Honestly speaking, I really did much preparation for the test. I enrolled in a preparation course at Australian Centre for Education (ACE), an initiative of IDP Education, where I was given many useful tips and strategies to the test from many experienced and qualified teachers and examiners. I also tried to familiarise myself with the test rules and format, in which I found the IELTS Information for candidates booklet and notice to candidates very useful. Last but not least, I practised as many sample exercises and tests as possible.

I am planning to take IELTS again at the end of this final year at university since I am looking forward to applying for the Australian scholarship to study at my dream university – University of Melbourne. I would unquestionably say that IELTS benchmarks and redefines the way English language is tested.

Assuredly, the test provides the result that accurately reflects one’s English language ability, contributing to its fame of fairness and effectiveness. More importantly, it is a bridge for me to pursue graduate study at my dream university. In other words, IELTS opens doors for me to the next higher stage of academic and future career life.

Ravi Patel

International student from India, living and studying in Perth

India is my home country and I am very proud of it. As an international student, my family members and friends are always motivational sources for me.

I love Australia very much. I like the people of here, always supportive, self-managed, friendly and outgoing. Additionally, I have learned many practical skills which I can utilise in routine life.

I have taken IELTS to get enrolled at university which was no less than a dream for me. From my childhood, English was one of the favourite subjects and I love it. I was an IELTS student in one of the public tuition classes in my area.

Osama Sohaib

From Pakistan, living in New South Wales

There are a lot of best things about living in Australia. First, it’s a multicultural society. People can settle easily because of their community. Second, it’s a high trust society where people can trade comfortably. Third, heaps of employment opportunities. Last but not the least, Australia gives all individuals ‘a fair go’ and the opportunity to capitalise on their ambition and the ability to improve their position.

I am now sitting in IELTS to apply for PR. I am preparing for the IELTS by practising sample tests online and through e-books. My advice is to practise sample tests, watch English movies, listen to radio and read newspaper every day and talk to native speakers.
