So Ottawa experiences all of the different seasons throughout the year. So in the wintertime, I highly suggest having a winter coat and some winter boots of mittens and a hat are always good, too. In the summer months, you definitely are good with a t shirt and a pair of shorts. And then in the fall and spring, once we do get a little bit of rain. So it's always nice to have a raincoat and an umbrella with you as well.

There are four wonderful seasons in Canada, so it's important to pack appropriately, we recommend bringing all of your basic clothing, but also any thermal wear, including hats and gloves. If you can't get that back home, don't worry, you can shop here. Our student support team is also going to be sending a recommended list of items to pack right before you start your journey to Canada. I also recommend bringing a little something from back home to help make Lakehead your home away from home.

The province of Manitoba is known to have some pretty chilly winters, so it would be wise for you to pack a good winter coat or at least get one when you're here. Our winter activities definitely do not stop outdoors. But if you're not ready to break them yet, in the summertime, we have a large province where you can go swimming in our lakes, you can even go hiking or canoeing. So definitely be prepared for some fun in the sun.

When packing for your time abroad, remember that Edmonton's climate may not be what you used to at home. In the summer, daytime temperatures range from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. In the winter, temperatures can drop below -30 degrees Celsius. If your country does not have cold, snowy winters, you might want to wait to buy winter clothing here.

Great question, and my answer is to pack whatever warm clothes you have, however, rest assured that if you aren't coming in September, the weather is still favorable as the average temperature is still around 20 degrees Celsius. We do transition into winter usually in the month of November, and you will need to purchase warmer clothes. However, our International Student Services Office is more than happy to assist you with these purchases and guide you on what is appropriate for winter. So you do not need to feel like you need to have winter gear when you arrive at Carlton. We will help.
